Should I come into the dentist when I have a cold sore?
No! It’s not a good idea to come in for treatment when you have a cold sore, regardless of how small the sore is. The problem with a cold sore is it is a virus and having us tugging on your lips and cheeks during dental treatment is going to disrupt that virus and cause it to spread. If the virus spreads than that means every time you get a cold sore it the future, all the areas that it spread will also become new sores. You don’t want to deal with that for the rest of your life! Today’s video goes into more detail about why but in general, I highly recommend you reschedule your appointment if you have a cold sore.
